Kohima, Feb 16 (WE THE NAGAS): The Kohima District administration is planning to introduce a new transport policy aimed at strengthening regulations and improving traffic management in Kohima town.
The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem during the Kohima District Road Safety Award–2026 held today. He stated that the proposed policy will focus on streamlining traffic movement, enhancing enforcement measures and ensuring better coordination among stakeholders to address growing congestion in the state capital.
At the programme, the Kohima District Road Safety Award–2026 was presented to Upper Jail Colony Panchayat, Jotsoma Youth Organisation, Kezoma Village Council, Naga Bazaar Youth Organisation and five personnel of the Integrated Command & Control Centre for their commendable role in easing traffic congestion and promoting road safety.
Meanwhile, MLA Kevipodi Sophie stressed that traffic congestion and improper parking cannot be tackled by the authorities alone. He called for collective responsibility, urging citizens to cooperate with enforcement agencies and adopt disciplined road usage habits.
The event highlighted the need for stronger community participation alongside administrative reforms to ensure safer and more efficient traffic management in Kohima town.
