𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐡𝐢, 𝐅𝐞𝐛 𝟐𝟑 (𝐖𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐒): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has strongly condemned discrimination against people from the Northeast following the alleged racial harassment of three women from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi.
In a social media post, Sangma asserted that bias against Northeastern citizens “must stop,” stressing the need for dignity and equality.
The reaction came after a purported video surfaced showing an altercation at a rented flat in Malviya Nagar, where the three women were allegedly subjected to racial slurs, humiliation, and intimidation by neighbours after a dispute over air-conditioner installation work.
According to police, an FIR has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to insulting a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and promoting enmity.
The case has been filed against two individuals, though no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. Police said the incident occurred on February 20 when drilling work in the women’s fourth-floor flat caused dust and debris to fall to the floor below, triggering the dispute.
The women alleged they faced verbal abuse and derogatory racial remarks targeting the Northeastern community. While no physical injuries were reported, they said they suffered mental harassment and humiliation and have demanded a formal apology.
