Dimapur, Feb 23 (WE THE NAGAS): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly rejected the claim made by certain staff members of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School (HCHSS) that the Union’s recent intervention was inappropriate and unrelated.
In a statement, DNSU asserted that it will continue to welcome aggrieved parents and students within its jurisdiction, regardless of whether the concerned institution approves. The Union clarified that its involvement in the recent issue was solely to ascertain facts and act as a mediator to ensure an amicable settlement.
According to DNSU, the matter was resolved peacefully through mutual understanding, and any attempt to escalate the situation afterward raises questions about underlying intentions. While acknowledging that some parental concerns were genuine, the Union said it exercised restraint and worked responsibly to calm a sensitive situation.
The Union maintained that institutions unwilling to cooperate in the interest of fairness, accountability and transparency create doubts about their own intentions. It further stated that the issue could have been handled internally by the school management and that DNSU stepped in only after the matter entered the public domain.
DNSU also alleged that the situation escalated due to poor communication and the rude behaviour of certain members of the institution’s management, including reportedly asking parents to take transfer certificates for raising concerns.
Reaffirming that its purpose is “to serve, not to rule,” DNSU said it remains committed to protecting student interests with honesty and restraint. The Union also questioned the rationale behind the temporary closure of the institution over a matter that had already been amicably resolved, stating that such decisions create unnecessary anxiety among students and parents.
Appealing for calm, DNSU urged the staff of HCHSS not to rekindle the issue, emphasizing that all parties had earlier agreed to forgive and forget in the interest of maintaining harmony.
