๐Š๐จ๐ก๐ข๐ฆ๐š, ๐€๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ• (๐–๐„ ๐“๐‡๐„ ๐๐€๐†๐€๐’): The Department of Geology, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, organised an international lecture series and interactive session titled “From Alps to the Himalaya: Tethyan Geodynamics, Stratigraphy and Seismic Hazard” on August 6 in collaboration with the AGH University of Krakow, Poland.

The programme was organised under the Polish grant project “Internationalization of AGH University of Krakow through Educational and Research Cooperation with Academic Institutions in Central and South Asia” and aimed to strengthen international academic collaboration through comparative studies of the Alpine and Himalayan mountain systems.

The inaugural session, chaired by Prof. S.K. Srivastava, began with a welcome address by Prof. Vikoleno Rino, Head of the Department of Geology. Prof. S.K. Singh, Dean of the School of Sciences, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the significance of Tethyan Himalayan-Alpine geodynamics and encouraging participants to actively engage in scientific discussions.

Dr. Michaล‚ Krobicki of AGH University of Krakow spoke on the geological characteristics of the Alpine system and outlined future collaborative research projects and academic workshops. Prof. N. Venuh, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, emphasised the importance of international partnerships and comparative research in advancing geoscientific knowledge.

The technical session, moderated by Ch. Mangi Khuman, featured presentations by Dr. Krobicki on Tethyan fossils, depositional environments and geodynamics; Dr. Krzysztof Starzec on Quaternary seismic deposits in the Indian and Nepalese Himalayas; and Dr. Anna Kwietniak on geophysical subsurface exploration and earthquake hazard assessment.
