Zeliang held a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in New Delhi on August 19 to discuss the widening of NH-202 and other major road projects in the State.
The meeting, led by the MoRTH Secretary and attended by the Director General and Additional Director General, deliberated on widening the existing single-lane NH-202 into a two-lane highway, along with projects concerning NH-329A, NH-702A and the Foothill Road.
A major issue concerning land acquisition was also discussed. The Ministry has provided an interim reprieve, enabling Nagaland to proceed with land acquisition under the Nagaland Land (Requisition and Acquisition) Act, 1965, amid the State Government’s reservations over the application of the National Highways Act, 1956, in the context of Article 371(A).
The Ministry also agreed to consider the Detailed Project Report already under submission, with necessary technical modifications to be carried out in consultation with the State-appointed consultant and MoRTH engineers.
Zeliang said resolving the remaining technical issues at the earliest would help expedite approval of the vital NH-202 project, which is expected to provide a long-term solution to road connectivity challenges faced by the people of Tuensang, Shamator and Kiphire.
